Sublex Chat vs Botpress
A Botpress alternative for a business that does not want to build a bot
Botpress is a serious platform for building AI agents. It has a studio, an agent development kit, unlimited agents on a paid plan, routing, roles and a voice channel at the top end. If you are an agency or a developer assembling something bespoke, it is a strong choice and this page is not for you.
It is priced accordingly. Botpress Plus is $189 a month, or $150 billed annually, and that buys 250 conversations. The Sublex Chat Business plan is $79 a month, or $66 billed annually, and that buys 2,000. The gap is not a discount, it is a different product: Botpress sells the means to build an assistant, Sublex Chat gives you the assistant already built from your own website.
There is a second difference that shows up on the invoice rather than the pricing page. On Botpress, overage packs are bought automatically, and their own FAQ answers the question of whether you can turn that off with one word: no.
2,000 conversations a month, both billed annually
What each one adds up to in a month.
- Everything in one plan $66
Business, billed yearly. The AI usage is inside it.
- Team plan, billed yearly $750
- Five packs of 100, at $50 $250
Their Team plan carries 1,500 conversations, so the last 500 arrive as five automatic packs at $50 each. Both numbers are off their own pricing page. The bar is drawn on volume alone, and Team also buys unlimited seats, unlimited agents, roles and routing, which Sublex Chat does not sell at any price.

| What is being compared | Sublex Chat | Botpress |
|---|---|---|
| Entry paid plan | $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for 500 conversations | $189 a month, or $150 billed yearly, for 250 conversations |
| The plan most businesses land on | Business, $79 a month or $66 billed yearly, for 2,000 conversations | Team, $939 a month or $750 billed yearly, for 1,500 conversations |
| AI usage | In the plan. One quota, whichever model answered | A separate meter. Plus includes $25 of AI usage a month, Team includes $150 |
| Going over your quota | You are told at 80%. At 100% the assistant stops answering and still takes every enquiry. You add conversations or move up, by pressing a button | At 95% a pack of 100 conversations is added automatically. $65 a pack on Plus, $50 on Team. Unused ones expire at month end |
| Turning that off | There is nothing to turn off | Their FAQ answers that question with one word: no |
| Free plan | 25 conversations a month | 100 conversations a month |
| Remove the branding | Business plan, $79 a month or $66 billed yearly | Whitelabel webchat is on Plus, $189 a month or $150 billed yearly |
| What a conversation means | One visitor's sitting, counted only when the assistant answered. Anything your team answers by hand is never metered | Any exchange with at least two messages from the visitor. AI handled and human handled threads count the same. A conversation spanning two months counts in both |
Do the arithmetic on 2,000 conversations, which is what the Sublex Chat Business plan includes. On Botpress you would take Team at $750 a month billed annually for 1,500, then five packs of 100 at $50, which is $1,000 a month. Both figures come from their own pricing page and that page's own pack prices. Sublex Chat is $66 a month billed yearly for the same volume, with the AI usage inside it.
That comparison is fair on volume and unfair on capability, and it is worth being straight about which. Team also buys unlimited seats, unlimited agents, roles and routing. If you need those, you are buying something Sublex Chat does not sell.

There is nothing to build
You give Sublex Chat your web address. It reads the site, and it is answering customers in about fifteen minutes. There is no canvas, no flow, no nodes and no deployment. Add your documents and price lists and it reads those too.
That is the whole difference in one sentence, and it cuts both ways. A studio is what you want if the assistant has to branch, call your own systems mid conversation, or do something nobody has thought of yet. If it has to answer questions about your business, a studio is a project standing between you and the thing you wanted.
The meter you did not agree to
At 95% of your Botpress quota a pack of 100 conversations is added to your account and billed, at $65 on Plus or $50 on Team. Their own FAQ asks whether auto recharge can be turned off and answers no. Unused conversations in a pack expire at the end of the month.
Sublex Chat tells you at 80%. At 100% the assistant stops answering questions and still takes every enquiry, so nothing is lost while you decide, and your own team can keep replying by hand throughout because a person answering is never metered. Nothing is charged that you did not press a button to buy.
It answers only from your own material
It cannot improvise a price, an opening time or an appointment. When the answer is not in what you gave it, it says so plainly, takes the customer's details, and puts the question on a screen in your dashboard, in the customer's own words, with a button to answer it. Answer it once and it is never missed again.
That screen is the part customers say they would not give up. It is your customers telling you what your website forgot to mention.
When Botpress is the better choice
Genuinely, and it matters if you are comparing properly:
- You are building, not buying. If the plan is to design branching logic, call your own APIs mid conversation, or write agent code against an SDK, Botpress is built for that and Sublex Chat is not.
- You run an agency with many clients. Unlimited agents on one workspace is their model and it is a good one. Sublex Chat allows 5 assistants on its largest plan.
- You need a support department's tooling. Roles, routing rules, team analytics and unlimited seats are on their Team plan. Sublex Chat is built for a business without a support department, and its plans go to 3 people.
- You need voice. They have a voice channel. Sublex Chat does not.
When Sublex Chat is the better choice
- You want an assistant on your website this afternoon rather than a project.
- You want one price with the AI, the live chat, the human takeover and the branding removal all inside it.
- You want the bill to be the number on the plan, with no second meter for AI usage and no pack bought on your behalf while you were not looking.
- You would rather the assistant said it did not know than guessed, because you sell something where a wrong answer costs you.
- Your customers write in more than one language. Sublex Chat replies in whatever language the customer writes in, and the chat window itself ships in English, French, Arabic and Spanish with proper right to left layout for Arabic, on every plan including the free one.
Frequently asked
Is Sublex Chat cheaper than Botpress?
For a small business, substantially. Botpress Plus is $189 a month, or $150 billed annually, for 250 conversations. Sublex Chat's Starter is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, for 500, and Business is $79 a month, or $66 billed yearly, for 2,000. Botpress meters AI usage separately on top of the plan, including $25 a month of it on Plus and $150 on Team. Sublex Chat has no second meter. Botpress prices checked on their pricing page on 1 September 2026.
What happens on each one when I run out of conversations?
Sublex Chat tells you at 80%. At 100% the assistant stops answering questions but still takes every enquiry, so nothing is lost while you decide, and your own team can keep replying by hand throughout because a person answering is never metered. Nothing is charged that you did not press a button to buy. Botpress adds a pack of 100 conversations automatically at 95%, at $65 on Plus or $50 on Team, and answers the question of whether auto recharge can be turned off with no. Unused conversations in a pack expire at the end of the month.
Do I need a developer for either of them?
For Botpress, in most cases yes, or at least somebody willing to learn a studio. For Sublex Chat, no. You paste one line into your website, and if you would rather not, ask and it will be done for you.
Can I move what I built in Botpress across?
There is nothing to migrate, because there is nothing to rebuild. Sublex Chat reads your website itself. Give it your web address, add any documents or price lists you already have, and it builds the assistant from those.
Does Sublex Chat have live chat and human takeover?
Yes, on the Business plan. You take over any conversation mid flow and reply as yourself, and the assistant stays quiet on that thread until you hand it back. The customer never has to repeat themselves, and a conversation your team answers does not count against the quota.
How is a conversation counted?
One visitor's whole sitting is one conversation. It ends after thirty minutes of quiet or fifteen messages, whichever comes first, and it only counts when the assistant actually answered something. A greeting somebody abandons is free. Botpress counts any exchange with at least two messages from the visitor, counts AI handled and human handled threads the same, and counts a conversation that spans two months in both of them.
Do I need an account to try it?
No. Type your web address on the home page and watch it read your site and answer questions about your business. Setting it up on your own site needs an account, and every new account starts with 14 days of the full Business plan, free, with no card.
Try it on your own website. No account needed.
