Sublex Chat vs Intercom

An Intercom alternative with no per seat and no per answer charge

Intercom is the most complete product in this category and it is priced for the companies that need all of it. If you have a support department, Intercom is probably the right answer and this page will not talk you out of it.

If you are a business with fewer than five people and a website that gets the same questions every day, the pricing model is the problem. Intercom charges per seat, from $29 a month each, and then charges $0.99 every time its Fin agent resolves a conversation on top. Your bill goes up when the AI works.

Sublex Chat is one number. The AI, live chat, human takeover and badge removal are inside it, and answering more questions does not cost more until you cross your plan's conversation allowance.

A month in which the AI answers 200 conversations

What each one adds up to in a month.

Sublex Chat$29 a month
  • Everything in one plan $29

Starter. Those 200 are inside it.

Intercom$227 a month
  • One seat $29
  • 200 Fin resolutions at $0.99 $198

Two hundred answered conversations is a normal month for a busy clinic or a hotel. The Intercom bar grows every time the AI does its job; the Sublex Chat bar does not move until the plan's allowance runs out. At a few thousand resolutions with a real support team, their model starts to make sense.

The third row is the one worth checking against your own numbers. Two hundred answered conversations a month is a normal load for a busy clinic or a hotel. On Intercom that is roughly $198 in Fin charges before you have paid for a single seat. On Sublex Chat's Starter plan those 200 conversations are inside the $29 a month, or $24 if you take the year.

The comparison flips as you grow. At a few thousand resolutions a month with a real support team, Intercom's model and its feature set start to make sense. Sublex Chat is not built for that company.

Intercom prices checked on intercom.com/pricing, 28 August 2026. Sublex Chat prices come from its own plans, read as this page loads.

The difference that is not about money

Sublex Chat answers only from the material you gave it. It reads your website, your documents and your price lists, and answers from those and nothing else. It cannot improvise a price, an opening time or an appointment. When the answer is not there it tells the customer, takes their number, and records the question on a screen in your dashboard so you can answer it once.

Intercom's Fin is a capable agent with a wider brief. The Sublex Chat assistant is deliberately narrower, because for a business selling appointments, rooms or repairs, an invented answer is worse than no answer.

When Intercom is the better choice

  • You have a support team. Intercom is built for one and Sublex Chat is not. Its plans stop at 3 seats.
  • You need a full help desk, ticketing, product tours, outbound messaging and a large integration ecosystem. Sublex Chat does chat, and nothing else.
  • You are at a scale where per resolution pricing is cheaper than headcount. That is a real argument at volume.

When Sublex Chat is the better choice

  • Nobody in your business has “support” in their job title.
  • You want a bill you can predict, that does not rise every time the assistant does its job.
  • You would rather it said “I do not know” than guessed.
  • You want to see every question it could not answer, in your customers' own words.
  • Your customers write in several languages. Sublex Chat replies in whatever language they use, and the widget itself ships in English, French, Arabic and Spanish with proper right to left layout for Arabic, on every plan.

Frequently asked

Is Sublex Chat cheaper than Intercom?

For a small business, substantially. Intercom charges from $29 per seat per month on annual billing, and $0.99 for each conversation its Fin agent resolves. Sublex Chat's Starter plan is $29 a month, or $24 billed yearly, with 2 seats and 500 conversations included, and the AI answering them costs nothing extra. Intercom prices checked 28 August 2026.

Does Sublex Chat charge per AI resolution?

No. A conversation counts against your plan's allowance when the assistant answered something in it. One visitor's whole sitting is one conversation, a sitting your own team answers by hand is never metered, and a sitting the assistant could not answer is free.

Does it have human takeover like Intercom?

Yes, on the Business plan. Any team member takes over a conversation mid flow and replies as themselves, and the assistant stays quiet on that thread until it is handed back. The customer never repeats themselves.

How many people can be on the account?

1 on Free, 2 on Starter, 3 on Business. If you need more than 3, Intercom is the better fit.

How long does it take to set up?

About fifteen minutes from your web address to answering customers on your site. There is nothing to script and nobody writes conversation flows.

Can I see it working before I sign up?

Yes. Type your web address on the home page and it reads your site and answers real questions about your business, with no account.

Try it on your own website. No account needed.

Type your web address and watch it read your site and answer questions about your business.
